Getting the unused disc space on remote systems failed because of ssh running
all arguments through a shell later, interpreted as a single string, as to 
"sh -c ..." .  Now, prepare the string to be safe to pass to a shell.  

Some error messages were not quashed.  Now, corrrectly list error messages with
their terminating nl/cr.

Finally, only automatically add compression if the dest is not localhost.  This
is probably wrong, for using rsync in reverse, remote to local.  FIXME.
