This is not documented anywhere, and is intended as a short-term tool for deorbiting the "feature". Unlike the similar handling of captive mode, there's no attempt to put the entire feature/removal behind the #ifdef, if only because it's _so_ deeply entwined in how _everything_ works. Much more will need to be done to actually remove all the tendrils of it. But this does remove 2/4 of the vscreen related fields from the ScreenInfo struct, and eliminates all handling of the config param. So, it's a start...	Matthew Fuller	2 years ago

689	Do various non-functional cleanups. Do various non-functional cleanups. Primarily this clears out all the remaining things clang-analyzer bitches about (apart from stuff in lex generated code, which ain't my problem). These basically consist of: - Dead store warnings. Some of these are obviously eliminatable; others are _correct_, but have instead been silenced because they're intentionally dead stores for defensive reasons. - Null pointer derefs. Some of these I'm pretty sure are impossible due to whole-program invariants, others are probably impossible due to how X works. I'm fairly certain none of them indicate any real problems; if they did, they'd be manifesting as segfaults, and we'd be hearing all about that. So this is mostly just about clearing out the list as far as possible to make it easier to find any meaningful ones that show up in the future. Clear out handlers that haven't been compiled in in ages, and ones that can't really work well. Remove non-async-signal-safe calls and change the main ones around to just setting a general flag. 646	Do a bunch of reworking to allow large parts of the startup ... Do a bunch of reworking to allow large parts of the startup sequence to sorta-work even without an actual X connection. This aims at a visible purpose of being able to run --cfgchk even without an X server to connect to. Some code is moved to after the config parsing to allow that (including actually trying to take over the screen). Various about-the-server info we need during config processing is faked if necessary. Some of the code invoked by the config parsing was directly interacting with the X server in ways that could be easily delayed until afterward. Other parts couldn't be, but could be conditionalized to stub themselves out if there were no connection, in ways that probably won't affect anything for those cases since it's not trying to _do_ anything with X in that situation. A further effect of this is that --cfgchk now supports multiple screens with their possibly different config files as well. The tools/try_all_opts.pl script for trying the build options now empties out the $DISPLAY env, so running the test suite through it won't try to connect to your real server for better isolation. Because some of the backend actions differ if there's no connection, it's difficult to guarantee that --cfgchk without $DISPLAY will actually catch all the problems it would otherwise. Things with colors and colormaps are particularly likely spots to run into its limits here. Most of the checks are still valid, however. There is a non-zero chance that there are additional landmines in config checking codepaths I didn't find in inspection and testing, that will assume a valid connection, and segfault in a no-$DISPLAY --cfgchk. Normal operation wouldn't hit them though, so their impact will be limited to annoying a dev when it happens (which is good, since that'll inspire the dev to go fix it ;).	Matthew Fuller	6 years ago
644	Merge RANDR and Layout support. Merge RANDR and Layout support. This adjusts internal data structures defining our display layout to be more flexible. When build with RANDR support (default) and the X server supports the extension, the structures are built with knowledge of the invididual monitors composing the desktop and how they're laid out. The various zoom'ing functions now zoom just on the monitor they're on; .x*zoom functions will zoom across the entire Screen. This makes multi-monitor setups work much more fluidly, especially when they're of differing resolutions or otherwise don't add up to an even rectangular output.	Matthew Fuller	6 years ago

This involves restructuring the OTP calculations to take some EWMH information as a default if the user doesn't have anything (e.g., from the config file) to override it, and allowing that and the various OTP f.whatever functions to set a base priority. Then various EWMH related actions can also set affect flags which add offsets from that base priority to determine the effective priority. 555	Centralize license info and standardize copyright statements... Centralize license info and standardize copyright statements. There are 4 classes of license applied to the current code. There is code that came from twm, which has Evans & Sutherland and MIT copyrights, with associated license. And there is [nearly all of] the code that came in as part of the ctwm lifecycle, which has copyrights from Claude and other ctwm contributors, with that associated license. These cover the bulk of the code, and are all described in the base COPYRIGHT file. All the license info from individual files that fall into these categories was moved into COPYRIGHT, and copyright lines were left but abridged and are referenced to it. VCS history is really the best way to track authorship of individual code sections anyway. File-level granularity is too coarse to be useful most of the time, and there are more than a few places where what's given is pretty questionable given the apparent code history. There are files in ext/ that are third party code brought in to fill in specific functionality; they have their own license info explicitly listed in each file. And there is the special case of session.c, which, in addition to the twm and ctwm copyright/license info, has an additional (and more restrictive) license from Durham.
