init. Purpose is to combine numerous directories of po files into a
a compendium directory of merged po files. then convert that into
a diectory tree as expected by gettext with mo files in the right places
and with "compendia" ad domain, then 'export TEXTDOMAINDIR <dir>' set
LANG and query it for translations in various for varoius strings at
command line with 'gettext -s -d compendia MESSAGE'
