What is MeMaker?
MeMaker is a nifty little program for Linux that makes creating
avatars for all your online and computer needs, simple and straight
forward. It creates avatars for everything from your MySpace
account to your login picture. It can even be saved as SVG's - highly detailed graphics
that can be resized infinitely, easily changed and then used
in just about any situation that you need an avatar.
What is an avatar?
Avatars according to the
English Wikipedia:
"An avatar is a computer user's
representation of himself or herself, whether in the form of a
three-dimensional model used in computer games, a two-dimensional
icon (picture) used on Internet forums and other communities, or a
text construct found on early systems such as MUDs. It is an "object"
representing the embodiment of the user. The term "avatar" can also
refer to the personality connected with the screen name, or handle,
of an Internet user."
Avatars are used in many places, from your personal login picture (when
you sign into your computer), almost every instant messaging system,
and most forums and social networking sites.
How do I get started?
There are two ways to get starting making avatars with MeMaker - the
online and offline way. Both have advantages.
The online one is useful as you have all the themes we provide, ready to use inside
our nifty interface. The disadvantage of
this is you have to manually move and then place the picture in the
place you like.
This is where the original MeMaker comes in handy.
Users of a computer can all picture avatars quickly with memaker. You
can even have some formats automatically set your picture, like your
login picture in Gnome
Display Manager. Plans are even in the works to have your avatars
all updated at once, including your online forums and chat programs
like Pidgin.

Getting Help
IRC
If you need help pretty quickly, you can join us on our IRC channel -
#memaker on Freenode.net.
However bear in mind, developers aren't on there 24/7 (you might even hear them complain
that they have lives...)
Mailing List
Mailing lists are a great way for everyone to collaborate and
answer questions together. You can subscribe to our
General or Art list. Don't worry, they aren't
too active, we are just here to help. :D
Launchpad
If all else fails, or you just want something more official looking to put your query
into, you can ask a question or file a bug at MeMaker's project page, hosted on Launchpad (remember to look through past content beforehand though, as you might be reporting/questioning something twice!).
Most of our developing is done on Launchpad, with all the code you will ever need residing at our project page there. You can also look at our Wiki, which houses a lot of useful information. If you want to see where you can help out, have a look below at what different people do within the MeMaker project.

Listed here are the programmers that have
helped even with one line of code and are willing to let use give
credit. If you would like to contribute and be apart of this great
team we would love to help you get started. Most of out programming
is done in Python with the exception of the web-based work, in which we use
HTML, jQuery and Javascript. Be sure to subscribe yourself to the
mailing list and introduce yourself. Even basic programmers can
contribute to MeMaker, let's get you started!
Artists
Programmers, well, they can make it, but it's artists that make it
beautiful. Thank you. If we stop getting artwork, we would be crippled.
We couldn't possibly list all artists that are contributing themes,
however a special thanks goes the artists who were willing and able to
have their content featured in your version releases. It's these
first themes that really influence and give first impressions of MeMaker to our
users.
Translators
It takes a lot to work with all the world. Credit where credit is
due. Keep up the good work!
Webhosting Space
We have a lot of data come in and out of this site. If we didn't
have someone provide the bandwidth, we would have to charge bank
around here!
