* Consolidated aync-specific code into its own class. We can always change this
  latter if we need to, but for now it will help in identifying all the places
  we need to update to get this thing to run as a twistd daemon.
* Identified a plethora of code that needs to be changed in order to work
  properly as part of a Twisted application.
