You'll need to have Zeitgeist (version 0.3.1 or later) installed.
To get it, run inside the same directory where you have checked out the
"gnome-activity-journal" branch:
$ bzr get lp:zeitgeist
And then start Zeitgeist in a separate terminal window, running:
$ ./zeitgeist/zeitgeist-daemon.py
Once Zeitgeist is running, you can start the GNOME Activity Journal like this:
$ ./gnome-activity-journal/gnome-activity-journal
