This will test FAMILY's capability to connect to an external microphone
<dl>
    <dt>Connect the microphone to the computer.  (This can include a microphone on a headset)</dt>
    <dt>Right click on the '''Volume Control''' icon on the right side of the top panel </dt>
    <dt>Open ''Sound Preferences'' or ''Sound Setting''. </dt>
    <dt>Go to the ''Input'' tab and ensure that the ''Input'' volume of the microphone is set to an appropriate level and is not muted.</dt>
    <dt>Press the ''Super Windows key'', or click the Ubuntu logo in the upper left hand unity panel and search '''Sound Recorder'''.</dt>
    <dt>Click the ''Record'' button (the red circle).</dt>
    <dt>Talk briefly into the microphone.</dt>
    <dt>Click the ''Stop'' button (the gray square).</dt>
    <dt>Click the ''Play'' button (the right-facing triangle).</dt>
        <dd>Your voice is played back and and no words have been dropped. (Remember to reset your microphone volume to prevent feedback on the internal microphone.)</dd>
