The default file manager in Ubuntu is called Nautilus. It is used to sort your files.

You can open a folder by accessing the Places menu located on the left hand side of the top panel.

Double clicking on a folder displays the contents of that folder. Double clicking a file launches the default application set to open or view that file.

To navigate back to the previous folder, press the back button in the upper left hand of Nautilus.
