Le syst�me X Window, Xfce et d'autres projets ont ajout� une interface graphique � la monotone ligne de commande UNIX, c'est cette interface graphique que vous utilisez en ce moment m�me. L'interface graphique X Window de UNIX ne signifie pas pour autant la mort de la ligne de commande. Elle est toujours tr�s pr�sente et se trouve �tre, bien souvent, le moyen le plus simple, rapide et efficace pour accomplir certaines t�ches. En fait, les utilisateurs en force seraient bien perdus sans elle.</p><p>Terminal est ce que l'on appelle un �mulateur de terminal X, tout simplement terminal ou shell. Il est l'�quivalent de la ligne de commande de l'ordinateur mais dans une fen�tre de l'interface graphique. Les utilisateurs de Windows connaissent peut-�tre d�j� la ligne de commande MS-DOS qui permet d'utiliser presque toutes les commandes du syst�me d'exploitation DOS de Microsoft. La ligne de commande UNIX est beaucoup plus puissante et d�velopp�e que celle du DOS.</p><p>Terminal �mule l'application <strong class="application"><code>xterm</code></strong> d�velopp�e par le X Consortium. � son tour, l'application <strong class="application"><code>xterm</code></strong> �mule le terminal DEC VT102 ainsi que les s�quences d'�chappement du DEC VT220. Une s�quence d'�chappement est une s�rie de caract�res commen�ant par <span><strong class="keycap">Esc</strong></span>. Terminal accepte et comprend toutes les formes de s�quences d'�chappement des terminaux VT102 et VT220, comme celles servant � positionner le curseur ou d'effacer l'�cran.</p></div><div class="sect2" lang="fr"><div class="titlepage"><div><div><h3 class="title"><a name="id2509602"></a>Qu'est-ce qui rend Terminal si sp�cial ?</h3></div></div></div><p>Les fonctions avanc�es de Terminal incluent une interface de configuration simple, la fonction d'onglets multiples � l'int�rieur d'une seule et m�me fen�tre, la possibilit� d'avoir une transparence du fond d'arri�re plan et un mode compacte (dans lequel les d�corations des fen�tres ainsi que la barre de menu sont cach�s) aidant � gagner de la place sur le bureau.</p><p>Les fonctionnalit�s majeures suivantes sont disponibles :</p><div class="itemizedlist"><ul type="disc"><li>Multiples onglets par fen�tre</li><li>Barres d'outils configurables, � l'aide d'un �diteur de barres d'outils int�gr�.</li><li>L'abilit� de configurer presque tous les aspects de Terminal dans la fen�tre de dialogue des <span><strong class="guilabel">Pr�f�rences</strong></span> plus quelques <span class="emphasis"><em>Options cach�es</em></span></li><li>Une bonne int�gration avec l'<a href="http://xfce.org/" target="_top">environnement de bureau Xfce</a> en particulier mais aussi avec bien d'autres bureaux Linux</li><li>Support de la gestion des sessions</li><li>Support de lecture multi-t�tes (Multiscreen ou mode Xin�rama)</li><li>Conformit� aux standards (voir le site web <a href="http://freedesktop.org/" target="_top">freedesktop.org</a>)</li><li>Service de terminal bas� sur <a href="http://dbus.freedesktop.org/" target="_top">D-BUS</a> pour minimiser l'utilisation g�n�rale des ressources</li><li>Une maintenance accrue due � l'utilisation de <a href="http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gtk/" target="_top">GTK+</a> et <a href="http://developer.gnome.org/doc/API/2.0/gobject/" target="_top">GObject</a>.</li></ul></div><p>� part toutes ces particularit�s, Terminal supporte toutes les fonctionnalit�s d'un �mulateur de terminal moderne.</p></div></div></div><div class="navfooter"><hr><table width="100%" summary="Navigation footer"><tr><td width="40%" align="left">�</td><td width="20%" align="center">�</td><td width="40%" align="right">�<a accesskey="n" href="getting-started.html">Suivant</a></td></tr><tr><td width="40%" align="left" valign="top">�</td><td width="20%" align="center">�</td><td width="40%" align="right" valign="top">�D�marrer</td></tr></table></div></body></html>
