With your file manager open, right click a file or folder.

 

This will open a menu that will provide you the options to cut and copy. These are effective ways of moving files around your system. Right click again to paste the file to its final destination.

 

Alternatively you can use the drag and drop methods. The shortcuts ctrl and shift work for helping you select multiple files. Hold ctrl and click to select additional files or folders one at a time. Hold shift and click to select all the files or folders in between two files.

 

Additionally, there are some common keyboard shortcuts that can help you with file management. Highlighting a file or folder and pressing ctrl+C will copy a folder, which can then be pasted with ctrl+V. Or, if you just want to move a file or folder and not copy it, you can use cut, which is ctrl+X

 

To rename a file or folder, right click on the file and select rename.
