<h2>Playing Music</h2>

Once you have set up your library, you can easily find and play songs and albums. 

 

You will see that Banshee has arranged your songs into albums, based on information embedded inside the songs themselves. This information can be edited at any time, as will be explained later in the tour. The albums are shown in a grid, with a list of artist to the left of the grid and a list of songs below it. Clicking an artist will narrow the list of albums and, in the same way, clicking an album will narrow the list of songs. You can double click an artist to play songs by that artist, double click an album to play the songs inside it, or double click a song to play it individually. In essence, a single click is used for browsing, whilst a double click is used for playing.

 

<h2>Additional features</h2>

 

The menu to the far left allows you to select different libraries and features in Banshee. In a similar way to music, Banshee can organize and play your videos, audiobooks and podcasts. 

 

Underneath the "Music" menu item, you will notice several subitems - these are playlists, which allow you to create your own lists and groupings of songs to play, regardless of which album or artist they originate from. To create a playlist, right-click "Music" and select "New Playlist"; name it and press enter. You can then add songs to it by right-clicking them and selecting Add to playlist and clicking the name of your playlist. Songs will not be removed from your library browser or affected in any other way by adding them to a playlist, so add as many as you like.

 

If you connect a compatible music device to your computer, it will show up in the menu pane in Banshee. Banshee will then be able to add, remove and copy songs to and from the device, or sync its contents with your library. Note that compatibility varies between devices - whilst most contemporary devices will work perfectly, some may be read-only and others will not be supported at all.
