Changing the Desktop Background

3
You can change the background directly from the desktop. Just right-click on an empty area of the desktop, and choose the "Change Desktop Background" option.
5
You can also go to System ▸ Preferences ▸ Appearance and select the Background tab.

8
<screenshot src="images/desktop-configuration_background-window.jpeg" height="250" style="float:right;" />Under the Background tab, select an image for the desktop background. That image will then be used as your desktop wallpaper.
10
Remember, you are not limited to using the Ubuntu default wallpapers. You can add photos or other images which you have saved from your camera or from websites like gnome-look.org. When you download an image, don't forget to save it somewhere you'll remember; the "Pictures" folder is a good place to save images.
12
To add a new image to your background options, simply go to System ▸ Preferences ▸ Appearance ▸ Background. Click on the "Add..." button and navigate to the location of the downloaded image. Select the image and click Open.
14
You can also use a background colour instead of an image. To set the desktop background colour, select a color from the available options. A solid color or a gradient of two colours can be used.
