<h2>Workspaces</h2><screenshot src="images/panel_workspace-applet-right-click.png" style="float:right;" />Workspaces give you the freedom to manage the windows on your desktop or screen. Each workspace contains the same desktop, panels and menus; however, you can open different windows running different applications in each workspace. 

 

Open applications on each workspace will remain running even when you switch to a different workspace.

The Ubuntu desktop provides four workspaces by default. The Workspace Switcher applet, located at the bottom right of your desktop, represents all four workspaces and allows you to move between them.

 

There are several ways to switch between workspaces:

<ul><li>On the Workspace Switcher applet, click on the workspace you wish to work with.</li><li>Press Ctrl+Alt+Right Arrow to switch to the workspace on the right of the current workspace. Press Ctrl+Alt+Left Arrow to switch to the workspace on the left.</li></ul>

 

<screenshot src="images/panel_workspace-switcher-preferences.png" style="float:right;" width="200" />To add or remove a workspace, right click on the Workspace Switcher applet and select the Preferences option. This launches the Workspace Switcher Preferences dialog box. You can specify the number of workspaces using the spin box.
