Ubuntu uses a file manager called <b>Nautilus</b> to sort and view your files. A <b>file</b> is an individual object - a picture, a song, a letter, or something else. These files are contained in <b>folders</b>, which are used for sorting.

 

You can open a folder by accessing the <a href="#" onclick="alert('$arrow.Arrow(137,10,None,\'#FF0000\',-45, 100, 1)');" onmouseover="Tip('Show me')" onmouseout="UnTip()">Places menu</a> located on the left hand side of the top panel.

 

The home folder (also called by your name) is where all your files are placed. Within the home folder, you will find folders for your personal files titled Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos and Downloads, plus several others. You can use these folders to help you organize your files or change them to suit your needs.

 

Double clicking on a folder displays the contents of that folder. Double clicking a file launches the default application set to open or view that file.
